HP, RSA & SAS GIRLS TAKE ON THE COLORADO BACKCOUNTRY

"On peak day of our Colorado backpacking trip, we were climbing a steep & scary pass. I could tell the girls were nervous (as was I!) Even in the midst of the freezing cold, half-dark morning, the girls continued to encourage each other. I could hear them cheering each other on and quietly praying, “God give me strength” over and over again. I was so encouraged to see them calling on the Lord in their need! When we made it to the top of that pass, as they cheered and celebrated together, I realized the privilege I have to witness such a sweet picture of the community they have formed in Christ."

HP & RSA GUYS VENTURE OUT IN BRITISH COLUMBIA

As Young Life leaders, we often pray for opportunities for God to use our own stories in the lives of kids, to explain who Jesus really is, & to see students choose to follow Him. Part of any wilderness trip includes sharing each of our life stories & I had the opportunity to share mine on the first day of our six-day trip. Three days later, a camper shared his story. While a typical life story may last 15 minutes, he spoke for only 5 but what he shared stuck with me. As he ended his story, he told the group that he chose to follow Jesus the day before.

As the two of us talked later, he said, “Well, after you told us your story, I knew I could share mine. When you told us Jesus changed your life, I believed He could change mine.” This kid chose to go on the trip 8 hours before the flight left and now, he’s following Christ!

39 KIDS SENT TO SERVE AROUND THE COUNTRY NOW GET TO WALK OUT WHAT THEY LEARNED BACK HOME

"As this summer’s Outdoor Crew Work Crew Boss at Trail West Lodge, part of my role included discipling 5 high school girls from Texas & Tennessee, including one from home. All day & everyday, we worked outside to help emphasize the beautiful landscape God has displayed. In that time, we learned just about everything about each other’s life: family, friends, struggles, dreams, school, relationships, and our walk with Christ through it all. She shared with me what her life has really looked like at home and, as we sorted through lies and expectations she had on herself, she ultimately realized that Jesus already died for all these things weighing on her. Through our conversations, she got to step into what true freedom means, looks, and feels like - true freedom and surrender in Christ. Now, I get to continue walking alongside her at home & remind her of what freedom in Christ truly means."

DEAF YL 2023

THE FIRST DEAF WORK CREW AT TRAIL WEST LODGE

Isaiah 43:19 says, "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." That couldn't more accurately describe what we experienced this summer. 14 Deaf kids joined Micah Willis, Young Life's first full-time Deaf staff member & a team of interpreters to serve & be discipled in an environment that simply has not existed for them previously.

In our time at Trail West, we got to watch families choose to love kids who often feel isolated, alone, & rejected. Our kids confronted myths & lies they have been told about themselves then embraced the truth of a God who deeply loves & cares for each of us. In short, we had the privilege of watching God truly create new life in front of our eyes. Hardened hearts were broken & made new.
